It's Plastic Free July!

July is one of our favourite times of the year because PFJ (Plastic Free July) is back! PFJ is a worldwide eco-challenge that you can introduce your friends and family to, who may not be as experienced with the zero waste lifestyle and would like to give it a go.

With PFJ, you can start out small or you can challenge yourself for as little as a week, to an indefinite time frame by using the Plastic Free July website to discover different ways to do your part during this month. They also offer a quiz for you to take to evaluate the things you already do or are wanting to start doing. (Remember, this can be a fun challenge for a week, or a month! It's not a forever commitment but you may find it really is quite easy to do and decide to make it one!) This is the perfect way to jumpstart your eco-conscious journey in a fun and inspiring way, having people from all around the world joining in with you.

8 Zero Waste Starter Tips

Looking for some pointers to starting your zero-waste journey? Are you interested in adding to your eco-friendly routine as it stands? Here are some of the ways you can participate in Plastic Free July (or everyday). (Pro-tip: many of these alternatives can be found right here at The Apothecary, and for the month of July, every Tuesday is 10% off refills when you bring your own container!)

  1. Opting for your own reusable cup, containers, plates, utensils & straws when eating out to save the disposables.
  2. Using your own reusable shopping bags instead of using plastic or paper bags from the store.
  3. Avoid using cleaning and personal products that come in a single use plastic container and opt for refillable options (hint: come visit us at the apothecary to refill your cleaning, laundry and bathroom needs.)
  4. Choosing natural fibres when shopping for new clothing to reduce microplastics
  5. Switch to reusable period care to not only save the waste but save cash money!!
  6. Ditch the disposable razors for a reusable razor
  7. Bulk food shopping! By refilling your dry goods at your local refillery, you are saving tons of disposable packaging from going into the landfill.
  8. Group clean up parties; getting your friends or family together to clean up an area is a fun way to connect with others while also doing something good for the planet

Join Amy and the rest of The Apothecary team this PFJ and share your progress via email ([email protected]) at the end of the month for a chance to win a $20 Apothecary Gift card!
