My Very Favourite Oils for Labour and Post-Partum

My Very Favourite Oils for Labour and Post-Partum

Customers often ask us which essential oils are safe and effective during labour and post-partum. And we are happy to fill them in! Here are my top choices.

Labour: Relax & De-Stress

Jasmine

Jasmine is one of my favourite oils to use because it’s both an analgesic and a relaxant. Its effect on our brain chemistry is similar to what happens when we eat a bar of chocolate — it actually has a really lovely action on our stress.

Blood Orange

Blood orange is also really good because it has a euphoric effect on our mental state.

Post-Partum: Heal & Calm

For a sitz bath I recommend All Things Jill Sittin’ Pretty Perineal Salts or Perineal Spray, because they contain cucumber extract which gives them a cooling and anti-inflammatory effect.

Geranium

Geranium promotes cell regeneration. Add 1-2 drops to two cups of Epsom salts, or to a whole bottle of Sittin’ Pretty Perineal Salts.

Lavender

Lavender never fails! The ultimate in calming.

Roman Chamomile

Roman Chamomile is calming, sedating and one of the safest essential oils to use with babies and children!

Happy Mumma Synergy Blend

This one is also great to diffuse during pregnancy and labour. You can also use it diluted for perineal massage during labour! It contains oils like Jasmine Sambac, Frankincense Carterii, Lavender, Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang that are wonderful for soothing rough emotions, calming the nervous system and generally great for all the ups and downs of post-partum.

Five Minutes Peace blend

Five Minutes Peace is great as well, for anything parenthood throws at you, really.

Wishing you all the luck, my parent friends!
