2023 marks the second year that The Apothecary in Inglewood hosts The Mercantile on 9th after a couple of squashed attempts to launch due to Covid-19. This local maker’s market has utilized the empty lot next to the shoppe, running 11am-4pm every Sunday from June 4th to September 24th, and many improvements have been made to create a beautiful, welcoming space for creatives to showcase and sell their work.
The core values for The Mercantile very much reflect those of The Apothecary in Inglewood, which include sustainability, community, transparency, inclusivity, and accountability. The Mercantile showcases and welcomes the work of local makers, growers, artisans, bakers, and non-profit organizations with a mindful practice towards sustainability and the preservation and/or representation of the natural world. This market strives to create a safe & inclusive space and build a vibrant community while supporting and growing local small businesses.
If you didn’t get the chance to swing by the market last summer, you will want to find time this year as the once-vacant lot at 923 9 Ave SE has had a makeover and this year’s market is packed full of some amazing vendors, including fresh produce from YYC Growers and Shirley’s Greenhouse! The Mercantile on 9th will continue reviewing and accepting applications throughout the summer, so if you are someone with creative hands and a passion for sustainability make sure to apply and be a part of the second annual summer market!
