As we transition into the colder months, it’s important to switch up our skincare routine to protect our skin from cold, dry conditions. Here are a few of our favourite products and tips to keep your skin looking and feeling its best right through till spring.
Consider Hyaluronic Acid
Have you heard about hyaluronic acid? This naturally-occurring substance is found in our skin, bound to collagen and water molecules and giving skin that “youthful plumpness.” It decreases in our skin along with collagen as we age, but luckily we can apply it to the surface of our skin for the same benefits — including encouraging skin cell renewal, decreasing the appearance of fine lines, rehydrating skin for a plumper appearance, and supply antioxidants to protect skin.
We love Cocoon Apothecary’s Nordic Boost Serum because we have found that it combats dry, flaky skin in the winter and really does decrease those fine lines!
Remember That Moisturizing Is Extra Important
Moisturizing is extra important in the winter, and we find that when issues come up it’s usually because we’ve started skimping on our moisturizing routine. Using a specifically-formulated facial lotion to protects skin from the elements and really seals in the moisture.
We love Cocoon Apothecary’s facial creams. A non-greasy facial lotion is hard to find, but Rosey Cheeks Facial Cream and Orange Blossom Facial Cream both fit the bill and feature natural ingredients and glass packaging.
Don’t Forget the Sunscreen!
It can be easy to neglect sun protection in the winter — but that’s a mistake! Leaving skin unprotected in the winter sun leaves us open to all sorts of free radical damage. Use a sunscreen daily to protect skin and prevent fine lines, wrinkles and of course, skin cancer.
We love The Reflector SPF 30, because it feels light on the skin but protects from UV rays (plus it smells incredible).
Beat Chapped Lips with Regular Exfoliation
Using a sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips can help to prevent chapping. A simple, natural, DIY scrub will do the trick when used on a weekly basis.
We love whipping up a sugar scrub from ingredients we have on hand! Check out this soothing lavender sugar scrub recipe on our blog and make it yourself.
Use Eye Cream at Any Age
With lack of hydration, fine lines and wrinkles can appear more quickly. It’s never too early to start using an eye cream as a preventative! Choose one that is lightweight so you can dab it on, avoiding any tugging on the delicate skin around the eyes. Look for natural ingredients that are high in fatty acids and antioxidants.
We love Cocoon Apothecary’s Eyewaken Eye Cream. It includes argan oil which is high in fatty acids and antioxidants, as well as cornflower and rose hydrosol which both smell amazing and are super hydrating.
