This essential oil has a rich, blue color that is accompanied by a sweet, thick, 'cooling' earthy and herbal scent. While both German and Roman chamomiles share some similar properties, there are some key differences between the two that make it worth exploring both. Its Latin name, Matricaria, derives from the Latin word 'matrix' which means 'womb'.

Recommended Uses

German chamomile is your skin's best friend (especially if your skin is sensitive). It may improve acne, assist with asthma, calm wounds and soothe rashes and sunburns. German chamomile may be analgesic, antinflammatory and antispasmodic. It is known for use as a digestive aid, to boost the immune system and to soothe menstrual cramps. Emotionally it is known for use as a calmative and may aid insomnia, nervous tension and stress.

German chamomile is a middle note. It is strong, sweet, herbaceous, fruity and warm.

Blends well with angelica, bergamot, cedarwood atlas, chamomile Roman, cistus absolute, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, helichrysum, jasmine, juniper, lavandin, lavender, lemon, marjoram, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, ravensara, rosemary, spikenard, tea tree and vetiver.

Contraindications / Safety

May irritate sensitive skin, but this is rather uncommon. Strongly scented, use sparingly.
