Clove was traditionally used in dental procedures for its numbing properties. Modern pharmaceuticals have now replaced clove, but the ingredient can still be found in various ointments used for dental hygiene. Clove should be used with caution, in low dilutions of 1% or less.
Clove may be used as an analgesic, antispasmodic, antifungal and antiviral oil. It may function as an aphrodisiac or digestive tonic, and assist with colds, flus, exhaustion, muscular pain, nausea, rheumatism and warts.
