Easy Recipe for a Natural Soothing “After-Bite” Roll-On
Summer has arrived, and with it, so have the mosquitoes. If you seem to be finding the hot days and sunshine just as appealing as these pesky bugs are finding your skin, you aren’t alone. As the World Mosquito Program shares, changing climate and increased humidity are allowing mosquito populations to increase, but your discomfort doesn’t have to skyrocket along with them! This 100% natural and zero-waste “after-bite” alternative has got all of your itchy bites covered. Follow the steps below, using ingredients all available in your needed quantities through our in-store bulk refillery or online, to make a quick and easy roll-on with cooling peppermint, calming lavender, and antiseptic tea tree.
This recipe is designed to gently cool and soothe irritation, redness and (of course) itchiness from mosquito and other mild bug bites:
INGREDIENTS
- 10 ml-size Amber glass roller bottle
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) Fractionated Coconut Oil (this can be substituted for jojoba oil or other carrier oils)
- 3 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 3 drops Lavender essential oil
- 3 drops Tea Tree essential oil
DIRECTIONS
- Drop essential oils into the roller bottle.
- Add the carrier oil.
- Seal with the roller ball and lid.
- Spin the bottle in your hands for a few seconds to mix.
Let sit to incorporate for 24 hours, and enjoy! To use, simply roll onto bug bites as desired. Peppermint and tea tree can cause irritation if over-applied, so take a break if this occurs. This roll-on is most effective if used within 6 months of making. Store in a cool environment and out of the sun. We at the Apothecary hope this recipe helps you get outside and enjoy the sunshine in peace!
