Mulling spices are an aromatic blend of cinnamon sticks, clove, anise, ginger and cardamom. They can be used to make mulled wine, a winter favourite, or baked in the oven for a natural, housewarming incense.
- How to Make
-
Mulled wine is a winter favourite. This recipe includes a less common ingredient in the world of mulled wine: brandy. The inclusion of brandy makes up for the lost alcohol content from the heating process.*
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp mulling spice
- ½ navel orange (or 1 whole small orange)
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 bottle red wine (preferably Cabernet Sauvignon)
- ½ cup brandy
In a large pot mix together your mulling spice, orange, honey, and wine. On medium/low heat, simmer for ½ hour. Stir occasionally. Once simmered, add the brandy. Serve and enjoy!
*Note: For an alcohol-free option, replace the red wine with unsweetened cherry juice or apple juice and omit the brandy.
