Sandalwood serves wonderfully as a versatile skincare additive. It may be used to treat acne, oily/greasy, dry, or aging skin types, cracking & chapping, as well as eczema. It is excellent in any after-shave moisturizer, and strengthens the connective tissue and dermis. It is noted for increasing capillary circulation, and water retention of collagen, and may also be used to care for infected wounds, when applied properly.
Outside of skincare, Sandalwood is often used to address ailments such as bronchitis, dry cough, laryngitis, sore throats, muscle spasm, sciatica, lumbago, neuralgia, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, frigidity, impotence, urinary bladder infections, cystitis, PMS, and menopause. It is used to promote circulation and decongestion of the lymphatic system, increase fat metabolism, and aid digestion.
When used to enhance mental health, this essential oil has a strong, persistent, yet gentle push to it. It is more commonly used to address complaints such as mild to moderate depression, insomnia, nervous tension, and problems stemming from stress. It assists one in breaking away from feelings of isolation, aggression, grief, and irritation, and may be used to address egocentric behaviors.
Sandalwood is often considered to be the king in the spiritual/energetic aspects (whereas Rose is often considered the queen). Commonly found in meditation blends, Sandalwood brings about a sense of peace and calm on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. It is considered to be a powerful grounding oil, and assists us in reconnecting with our sense of being. It is said to promote trust, sensuality and sexuality on a spiritual level, enhance our self-esteem, and bring an appreciation to the beauty of life. It is an excellent choice for meditation, as it is known to quiet and still the mind.
